Recent high school graduates will take a variety of paths from this point – attending colleges near and far, joining the military or entering the workforce. For one 2024 graduate of Bishop Heelan High School in the Diocese of Sioux City, a calling to the priesthood will lead him to the seminary.
The Diocese of Sioux City Office of Multicultural Ministries announced that Bishop Walker Nickless has authorized second load of food and supplies be collected and shipped to Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, Texas, to assist the staff and volunteers at the center in serving the many people in need that they encounter.

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed the SF 2340 “illegal entry by certain aliens” bill, which is slated to go into effect July 1. Throughout the legislative session, the Iowa Catholic Conference (ICC), the public policy voice of the Iowa Catholic bishops, communicated that they opposed the bill, noting among other concerns, that SF 2340 was “preempted by federal law and the U.S. Constitution.” Bishops and church leaders spoke out against it.
As with many aspects of the sacramental life of the church, the law is clear on what should be used for the celebrations, which is referred to as proper matter. For example, in the case of baptism, the proper matter is water. If a priest were to use milk, for example, for a baptism, the baptism would not be valid, as the proper matter would not have been used.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, The traditional Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord or what we call Ascension Thursday is 40 days after Easter Sunday, which is Thursday in the sixth week of Easter. The Ascension of the Lord celebrates the event described in Acts when Jesus appeared to his disciples numerous times for 40 days before ascending to heaven from the top of the Mount of Olives.
