Lisa Claeys will be presented with the Spellman Award on Nov. 2 at MercyOne Siouxland’s Old Hollywood Gala.
Proceeds from the event will benefit MercyOne Child Advocacy Center which provides services to children who are suspected victims of sexual, physical, mental, or emotional abuse or who have been witness to violent crime. Jeff and Pam Lapke are this year’s chair couple.
Claeys served with the Sioux City Police Department for 37 years, moving up the ranks from Sergeant to Lieutenant before retiring in 2021. Lisa was the first woman police officer hired in Sioux City and is best described as being a trailblazer and someone who never shies away from challenges. Lisa was an intricate part of MercyOne from 2000 – 2022, serving as a member of the Advisory Board of the Child Advocacy Center and Board Chair of the MercyOne Siouxland Foundation.
“Lisa was instrumental in starting the Child Advocacy Center. She is a philanthropist at heart and is generous with her time, treasure and talent to MercyOne and the Siouxland community”, states Tracy Feathers, Chief Development Officer at MercyOne Siouxland Foundation. “We are proud to honor her with the annual Spellman award.”
“Since the inception of the MercyOne Fall Gala more than 25 years ago, it has raised more than $5 million to improve health care for Siouxland by supporting programs and special projects,” said Feathers. “I am proud of our fabulous committee who spend months preparing for the event, and of our generous community for their presence and financial support at this cherished, elegant and entertaining Siouxland event.”
The MercyOne Siouxland Old Hollywood Gala will be held Nov. 2 at the Marriott in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The event will feature a cocktail hour followed by dinner, presentation of the Spellman award, and entertainment from the local band Trust.
