The Friends of Gehlen Catholic Ball had a "run for the roses" of its own, raising an impressive $338,516 for the 38th annual fundraiser March 29 in LeMars. (Photo of check presentation doesn't include the Fund-A-Cause dollars.)
Amy Jungers, Gehlen development director, shared, “We’ve been fundraising for this event since last summer, and over the past few months, our dedicated committee and volunteers have worked tirelessly to sell tickets and secure donations. Their hard work truly paid off."
During the event, General Chairs Matt and Christin Konz, along with Mychal and Maggie Rechtenbaugh, addressed the crowd, expressing their gratitude for the community's continued support and dedication to the event.
Seniors Addison Konz and Cole McCarty took the stage as student speakers, sharing heartfelt reflections on their time at Gehlen Catholic School and the lasting impact it has had on their lives.
Continuing a cherished tradition, the prestigious Spirit of Peter and Catherine Gehlen Award was presented to Jeff and Jackie Arens. This award honors individuals who exemplify the Gospel values instilled at Gehlen Catholic School. Jeff and Jackie have contributed selflessly over the years, serving on the school board, finance committee, fine arts boosters and in various volunteer roles.
For the second consecutive year, the Teacher of the Year award was announced. This year’s deserving recipients were fourth grade co-teachers Patty Hatting and Cheri Herbst. The online and live auctions were a key highlight of the evening, led by Co-Chairs Brad and Sarah Cave and Tyler and Kylie Petty. The live auction, managed by Brock Auction Company, featured 10 exciting items, raising an additional $31,950 toward the grand total.
The Fund-A-Cause portion of the evening raised more than $57,300, with proceeds dedicated to the finishing touches on this summer's gym renovation.
Jungers reflected, "It was an incredible evening from start to finish! Our school and committee are profoundly grateful for the generosity shown by our community and the Gehlen Catholic family."
Mark your calendars now for the 39th Annual Friends of Gehlen Catholic Ball, set to take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
