Vietnamese celebrate Lunar New Year, Presentation

The Vietnamese community of Sioux City Cathedral Parish celebrated their Lunar New Year, Year of the Snake and the feast of The Presentation of the Lord on Feb. 2. Bishop Walker Nickless was present for the Mass, celebrated by Father Peter Nguyen. A meal and celebration continued in the St. Joseph Church hall after the Mass.

Bishop Nickless address the community at the end of the Mass and noted he was happy to be able to celebrate with them.

"Thank you for your welcome on this special day for you and the whole church," he said. "We celebrate the Presentation of the Lord became light for the whole world. I encourage all of us to be like Simeon and Anna - they trusted in the Lord and he came to them."

The bishop also noted that 2025 is the Jubilee Year of Hope as Pope Francis said we celebrate that 2,025 years ago, Our Lord was born and "he asks us to be full of hope."
