Sister Margaret McGuirk, OP, will celebrate her 60th jubilee with eight other Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in 2025. Born to Benedict and Marguerite (Mannion) McGuirk in Sioux City, she professed vows with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1965 and received the religious name of Sister Benet. She received her BA in English from Rosary College (now Dominican University), River Forest, Illinois; an MA in religious education from Fordham University, Bronx, New York; and a Master of Divinity in theology from the Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis.
Sister Margaret's ministry has been dedicated education and social services. She taught at St. Rose of Lima School, Baltimore, Maryland.; St. Joseph School, Dubuque; Martin Luther King School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Our Lady of Mercy School, Bronx, New York. She was director of religious education at Our Lady of Refuge Parish, Bronx, and at St. Pius Parish, Chicago.
Sister Margaret served the Sinsinawa Dominican congregation as provincial councilor of the Western Province. She has ministered with the people of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, as parish life administrator at St. Francis de Sales and St. James Parishes in St. Paul and as parish administrator and executive director of Centro Guadalupano, the parish outreach program, at Holy Rosary Parish, Minneapolis. This program offers English classes, after school enrichment, health and wellness opportunities, sewing classes, and referrals for needed social services for immigrants. She currently resides in Richfield, Minnesota and works in pastoral ministry at Incarnation Church.
