The Friends of Gehlen Catholic Ball on March presents the Kentucky Derby at the Le Mars Convention Center, hosted by General Chairs Matt and Christin Konz and Mychal and Maggie Rechtenbaugh.
“We appreciate the impact these fundraising events have on the school financially, but also their significance in facilitating and creating a sense of community and pride in the school. We had always felt that it was a way to support and give back to the school but also to make and encourage further connections within the school community,” said Matt and Christin Konz.
With the theme, guests can embrace the spirit of the derby.
“We wanted a theme that everyone could enjoy,” said Matt and Christin. “It’s a modern and elegant way for people to dress up, whether they want to wear big hats or keep it casual like they’re at the races. We’ve enjoyed gathering inspiration from people who’ve been to the Derby firsthand, and we’re excited to see everyone get creative with their outfits.”
A ticket for two is $125, and a raffle ticket is $100, which gives a chance to win $5,000, $3,000 or $2,000.
“We decided to become General Chairs because we wanted to be more involved with the school and meet other Gehlen families. What better way to jump in than helping with the school’s largest fundraiser,” said Mychal and Maggie Rechtenbaugh. “The ball is a great way for Gehlen families and alumni to celebrate and remember why Gehlen is such a special place. Many of those who attend the ball have been affected positively by the school in some way. Whether you’re an alumni, teacher or parent, it reminds us about the value of receiving a Catholic education.”
A catered meal will be provided by Home Plate Catering, and attendees can look forward to an entertaining program featuring student speakers and the awarding of the prestigious Spirit of Peter & Catherine Gehlen Award and Teacher of the Year Award.
“We are excited to honor and recognize the recipient of the Spirit of Peter & Catherine Gehlen Award, and we’re also excited to hear from some students about how our fundraising efforts positively impact their experience at Gehlen Catholic,” said the Rechtenbaughs.
Next in the lineup of events will be the live and silent auction. The silent auction will open online for bidding on March 24 and close the evening of the ball. The live auction will consist of about 10 items, including the annual Name the Gym and fun getaways.
The headliner for the event will be the live band, Not Quite Brothers.
“I am very excited for the live band Not Quite Brothers,” said the Rechtenbaughs. “It’s going to be an amazing night with great music and fun.”
This annual fundraiser helps fund art and teaching supplies, technology and much more.
“We’ve always believed in giving back to our school,” said Matt and Christin Konz. “Beyond the fun and glamour of the evening, this is an important fundraiser that supports various programs and initiatives at Gehlen Catholic, helping secure a bright future for the school.”
