Nineteen boys and 27 girls competed in the annual CYO cross country meet in Holstein last week.
Anthony Valles of St. Edmond posted the fastest time in the boys’ race at 16:46. Dayton Wiederien of Kuemper Catholic was runner-up medalist with a time of 17:02. Liam Shannon and Levi Odor-Westrum of St. Edmond, Alex Amaro of Bishop Heelan, Fletch Badding of Kuemper, and Andres Gonzalez of Heelan rounded out the top seven finishers.
St. Edmond took team honors with a team score of 36, followed by Kuemper at 39 and Heelan at 50.
Addison Bertrand of Bishop Heelan was the girls’ individual champion with a time of 19:35. Julia Swift of Bishop Garrigan and Anna Lursen of St. Edmond finished second and third with times of 20:19. Ellie Knox of St. Edmond, Kaci Wiederien of Kuemper, Kailyn Fitch of Heelan, and Colby Carroll of Heelan rounded out the top seven.
Heelan squeaked past St. Edmond for the team title with a team score of 35 to St. Edmond’ 36. Kuemper and Gehlen were third and fourth, respectively.
