The third Sunday in September is set aside to acknowledge the importance of catechists in the church. Parishes throughout the world and in the Diocese of Sioux City will recognize those who teach the faith in our religious education programs, Catholic schools, youth ministry and other programs, often at weekend Masses.
The theme for Catechetical Sunday 2024 is, “Lord, when did we see you hungry?” (Mt 25:37). The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops explained the theme is to focus on our call to missionary discipleship.
“The universal call to holiness is closely linked to the universal call to mission. Every member of the faithful is called to holiness and to mission. We are called to be Eucharist by word and action to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Our times cry out for this kind of holiness, one inflamed by the ardent determination to bring as many of our brothers and sisters as possible to Christ,” from St. John Paul II.
The faithful are urged to offer prayers and gratitude to those who teach the faith throughout our diocese. The Diocese of Sioux City acknowledges our Faith Formation Office staff for their work in teaching the faith and supporting the catechists in parishes and schools:
Karmen Bower, director
Danielle Fennessy, coordinator
Madeleine McLarty, coordinator
Angelica Gallegos, administrative assistant
(Next month, Delores Huemiller will join us as a third coordinator)
